  Christmas Star = Satan?!

  i was talking with my husband the other day about the jw's belief that the "christmas star" that guided the magi to christ was the doings of satan.

  he didn't believe me; this is what i found in the "my book of bible stories" (copied verbatim from cd-rom).

  who do you think made that new star to shine?

  Hey Friday hold a mirror to this one. . . .

  lets step away from all bible "reasoning"---don't you love a good oxymoron?-----and think things clear

  you ever walk outside at nighttime and see, oh i don't know, the moon lets say, as an example, and you ever notice what happens to it when you walk, call me bizarre but as a young one i used to look up at it when i walked outside, i still do sometimes if the skyline isn't blocking it, anyhows if you look at the moon while you walk it seems to follow you, ahead of you---
  that wasn't a typo, it seems to move in the same direction that you are moving try it sometime and you will see what i mean

  i like to reason things and i like proof, call me doubting thomas if you will, and i'm sorry it seems as though i may be mocking your beliefs but the question originally posed was dealing with scriptural proof for the "star" you have not offered any, sorry

  all you said was that by taking the"evidence" and reasoning on it it leads one to think that satan was responsible for it. . . .bottom line no scriptural quote or documentation to back up the assumption
  it is very typical to point the finger and blame satan for all of jehovah's fuck ups

  in my other post i mentioned the possibility of it being a comet,
  (and i am NOT surprised this was not commented on by you or anyone else)these are among the few things in the sky that move at an obvious rate, granted so do stars and the planets but to the untrained observer their movements are miniscule,

  a comet's movement can be noticed, a meteor(shooting star) can too but it disintegrates too fast and cannot be tracked with the same ease as that of a comet, a comet even holds its "position" long enough to be tracked and "followed"

  question for you what happened to this "star" after he was born???

  i just thought of another possibility, this is far fetched but i would have to look at astronomy charts and i really don't know how feasable it would be or if it could actually be witnessed without a telescope, a supernova, perhaps someone who knows a little more on these could elaborate on the possibility of such a phenemena and how long the duration of the blast would be visible, keep in mind though that the explosion would have occured light years prior to its being seen on earth. . . . .perhaps the conception of Jesus millenia ago in heaven prolly not just a "simple" astronomical occurence. . .

  so think about this a bit and drop the book for a while and get some air

  Wrong date

  hello i'm new to the whole jw study thing, but they said it fell in 607 but due to the advice of others here i looked it up.

  i found in 3 encyclopedia's online that it fell in 586. i printed them out and am going to get more.

  i'm going to show the lady i study with, i'm just curious what you think will happen, and if she will try to deny it.

  just a thought i want to throw out there,
  if the second coming is spiritual then how can we time/date it with physical time???

  think about this for a few minutes. . . .

  the second coming which is a supposed spiritual event, would be seen by spiritual eyes not physical ones, making it a personal event for the individual to experience on his/her own and at his/her own time when they are ready to "see" it.

  another related issue is time,
  the bible states that a day is like a thousand years and vice versa,
  if you use this time metaphor to measure time
  then indeed what jesus said about only the father knowing the time of the end would be so
  cause in reality no one knows how SHE really measures time up there
  any attempt to predict the last days would be as accurate as Chuck Russell's measurement of the pyramids. . .

  as far as the year 0, i'm sure god knew about its inexistence. . . [8>]

  hi.. i've been a jw for 15 years, have pioneered, been where the need is great, etc.

  up until a couple of years ago, i was considered strong in the truth.

  but then i had my first and only episode of major depression.

  what triggered it??
  i read that therapy helped you face the source of the depression, my question though is
  what changed inside of you or in your surroundings to set off your depression, 2 years ago???personal experience, event at the hall, etc. . .

  i ask this assuming that you did not suffer from depression prior to this episode, and taking into consideration that your depressed state has grown stronger because the lack of support and caring in your congregation.

  i have lived with depression for many years so i can relate to the feelings if you want to chat. . .

  Studying

  i flat out asked the jw i'm studying with what she would do if someone was disfellowshipped and she was honest and said she wouldn't talk to them since they wouldn't be good examples of jehovah witness.

  then we started talking about appearances and tattoos, and about my pink hair :) and she said it didn't matter.

  i am enjoying reading and visiting this web site but i am just not seeing the same things you guys have.

  this is coming in a bit late but after reading the comments i have a few questions for you. . .
  you mentioned that the sister's daughter is getting a tattoo,
  is the daughter an active witness???
  or is she "just" her daughter?

  the reason i ask you this is because (damn i hate the closed mentality) "according to the spiritual standing of the sister and family involved"
  she may interpret the beliefs a bit more loosely
  how long has the sister been a dub?
  if she is married, and if so is her husband an elder?

  these questions off hand may seem irrelevant but they greatly affect the perspective of the the sister giving you studies. . . .

  pretty much everyone has been dead on with their advice, you are getting the love bomb treatment and you are being told what you need to hear in order to convert so i won't be redundant with the advice. . .

  on a more personal note,
  why are you interested in the witnesses???
  i'm curious as to why you would want to relinquish your independance and become a clone of the WTBTS,

  ps i have a dragon myself on the right side of my back/front deltoid. the head pierces through to the front from the back, on my back is the body with spread wings, pretty large and colourful, i got it 3 years after i walked out of the borg

  i'll tell you what i think american indians have surpassed 100 years for a long time as well as have yogis in india, whether it be through meditation or exercises such as yoga and such or teas or whatever they smoke in their peace pipes, (personally i am willing to make a few of my own edumacated guesses)

  what this doctor is proposing is nothing new in as far as longevity, now in as far as what is going on in the cells and such that may be a new understanding and if it helps humans live longer that could be a good thing depending on how you look at life and who's shoes you are walking in. . .

  what's the best way to stay awake during the watchtower study?

  oh, furthermore, what's the best way to stay awake during any witness "snooze-a-thon" brainwashing session?

  here is a very practical solution to stay awake during the meeting, being that i would constantly nod off,
  I found that it helped me out greatly and my time became much more productive

  STOP GOING AND WASTING YOUR TIME

  you already know meetings are a waste of time and their teachings are bullshit so . . . . .

  ok, according to history during 1776 the revolutionary war was fought for independance and the declaration of independance was signed here in philadelphia (USA)
  two figures come to my mind
  Ben Franklin
  George Washington
  one became an ambassador to France
  the other president of the USA
  how old do you think these cats were???
  considering that Kennedy was the youngest president elected to office in his early 40's. . . .georgie was much older and a general at that. . .

  A REALISTIC LOOK AT WHAT WAS REALLY IN THE SKY THE NIGHT OF JEEBUS'S B-DAY

  A comet was making its orbit around the sun and happened to be visible on the nights that it took for the 'Magi's' to travel from wherever there origin was and reach the "virgin" and company

  apologies to those whom i exposed the truth behind the curtain

  It is so F'ing typical to blame Satan for everything how about blaming Jehovah for his lack of foresight???

  Seriously though, i don't buy into any of the bible myths so my view is less coloured by fantasy and more about what could have really been out there if indeed anything WAS in the sky and that is simply not just another element to add to the divinity of the birth.

  Personally the whole story reads like a novella, a protagonist and antagonist involved in their eternal conflict. . . blah blah blah YAAWWNNNN
